Objectives and Content

  1. Share the basic vocabularies of Pang-alay dance form.
  2. Conduct workshop on contemporary choreographic improvisations.
  3. Investigate and experiment on intercultural dance models: traditional Maguindanao dance and contemporary dance cultures.

The workshop will have two parts.  The morning session will be used to teach the basic vocabularies of Pang-alay (i.e. hand movements, stances, and foot work patterns).  After providing participants with the basic movement vocabularies, the afternoon session will be used for choreographic compositions workshop to create short improvisational pieces.

Requirements for Participants

  1. Only a maximum of 15 participants can be accommodated.
  2. Outfit: Each participant is required to come in loose jogging or dance pants and working shirt/tank.  No tight-fitting or skimpy clothing that will prevent movements please.  Please also, bring a towel and a change of clothing.
  3. Each participant should memorize a short poem or quotation about “The Sea” (in any language).
